Veterans’ Ball A Success

Former Governor Athel Long, CMG, CBE; Charles Adams OBE, JP and Susan Adams.

“An incredible success,” is how Cayman Islands Veterans Association (CIVA) Vice-President (and former US Marines Master Sergeant) Andrew McLaughlin described the Association’s first Veterans Benefit Dinner/Dance Gala. It raised over $25,000 towards supporting the needs of veterans in the upcoming year.

Held last Saturday evening, 20th October, the event was attended by about 200 guests. During the function, resident vets who served in British and allied militaries, and their families, joined with benefactors, sponsors and government officials to celebrate the bravery, and mourn the sacrifices, of those who served in World Wars I and II (and in subsequent conflicts).

Mr. McLaughlin expressed the CIVA’s gratitude to all generous sponsors who provided goods, services, attended the event or sponsored seats for veterans to attend the dinner. One highlight of the evening was the presentation to the association of a significant donation by the Hon. Michael Adam, MBE, JP, on behalf of the Office of the Premier.

The CIVA was formed in 1978 and has had several hundred members. While today the membership stands at about 60, its executive committee is earnestly recruiting new members who have served in uniform during recent times.
