The Editor Speaks: Speculation boiling over regarding PWC Report

Colin WilsonwebIn five weeks time the Cayman Islands goes to the polls and elects a new Legislative Assembly.

The huge hot potato that has been boiling for a long time is about to explode.

I am talking about the PricewaterhouseCoopers value for money report that has been promised and promised and promised, to be revealed by the government.

Is the ForCayman Investment Alliance (FCIA) deal value for money or not? The previous Bush government said it was but if one believed everything they (or rather Bush) said you would be headed for the insane academy.

The Julianna O’Connor-Connolly minority government said they would be releasing the document ‘next week’ and when that week came it was ‘next week’ again but that ‘next week’ passed and now they have said ‘end of April’. They also intimated that the deal was value for money.

On the past record of all these promises I wouldn’t ‘hold your breath’.

The FCIA/National Roads Authority (NRA) agreement was signed nearly a year and a half ago but that has not been made public.

Since the document was leaked to the public the deal has been amended at least three times with, we are told, major adjustments.

This all would seem to indicate to me that the original deal wasn’t as good a value for money deal we have been led to believe and this was probably highlighted in the PricewaterhouseCoopers Report.

There is obviously a political motive behind the delay of the Reports release and it has nothing to do with the official reason given at last Thursday’s (14) Government Press Briefing that the Report was delayed due to the latest changes.  This includes Dart’s agreement to expand the single lane stretch of the Esterley Tibbetts Highway from Camana Bay to the Butterfield roundabout in George Town into a duel carriageway.

If the April deadline passes by and we don’t have the Report disclosed the hot potato will explode all over Dart, the NRA, the Government and their road!
