My name is William and I am the Chief Ambassador of PIEDATA, a youth-based Caribbean organization with a focus in I.C.T. and Business.

After long anticipation, we are extremely excited to announce the official launch of CANTO CODE 1.0. With the first year’s theme “Crack it. Hack it. Code it”, we are seeking to invite the brightest Caribbean Innovators to Miami, Florida for a 48 Hr Coding Event. CANTO Code 1.0 is a Software Developer, Design, and Entrepreneur Competition for Caribbean Nationals.

This year’s competition, being held in Miami, Florida seeks to bring together the best team of software developers and designers from the Caribbean region, with the aim to have them work on challenging but real world solutions. The competition will take place over 48 hours and the teams will be required to develop the most efficient and elegant solutions to a unique challenge that will be communicated at the start of the competition.

Brief Summary

On July 26th, 2015 CANTO is set to launch their 31st Annual Conference and Trade Exhibition at the Hyatt Regency, Miami, Florida. This year’s event will serve as the commencement of CANTO Annual CODE 1.0 (Caribbean Organized Developers and Entrepreneurs) with the theme; “Crack it, Hack it, Code it,” and it’s CANTO’s & DSS’s first regional Software Design and Developer Competition. The competition seeks to bring together the best teams of software developers and designers from the Caribbean region, with the aim to solving challenging but real world problems. It will take place over 48 hours and will give teams the opportunity to develop solutions to a unique challenge that will be communicated at the start of the competition. The “Crack it, Hack it, Code it”, 48 Hour Coding Contest will be held from the 27th – 29th July
2015 at the Hyatt Regency, Miami, Florida.

CANTO was founded in 1985 as a non­profit association of telephone operating companies in the Caribbean. The association now comprises of a global membership base of over one hundred and twenty three (123) members from thirty four (34) countries spanning four continents. The policy strategy of the association is directed by a board of directors appointed by the membership; which is executed by the Staff of a permanent Secretariat based in Trinidad & Tobago.

PIEDATA (PIE) is the marketplace for Caribbean Technology. PIE is a 21st century organization consisting of generation X and Y with the focus of bridging the Caribbean youth and leaders within the industries of Information Technology, Mobile Commerce, and Content Development working together as one Caribbean ecosystem. PIE empowers distinguished millennials through “inspire, educate, and sustain” their technological advancement as Innovators, entrepreneurs and incubators within the Caribbean Community.

The Objective

CANTO and their partners continue to serve Caribbean Youth by providing a platform dedicated for the advancement of our future Caribbean leaders. This event provides an opportunity for the leading Caribbean software designers, developers, entrepreneurs and innovators to represent their country by working together to develop a pre­identified business solution. This event is designed to engage the Caribbean youth, both local and abroad, in stimulating Caribbean tech start­ups to gain exposure, provide expert advice on business development, and participation in the youth exhibition. Teams will be present “ Pitch” their final solution towards key judges at the end of the competition. The Forum promises to provide a fun, exciting and interactive experience that will not only captivate the minds of the Caribbean youth but also provide excellent networking opportunities. There will also be opportunities for participants to pitch ideas in front of investors and win prizes and giveaways.

Qualification Process

All qualifications will be administered by a team of panel judges consisting of CANTO, DSS, and PIEDATA. In order to qualify all candidate must fit the criteria and abiding by contest rules and regulations stated.. We encourage everyone that qualifies to apply, however we are looking to identify high level and experienced candidates “Teams”. Remember, there will only be one team per country selected, therefore we encourage every country to propose their best programmers/designers to represent for the Caribbean region. Countries will be evaluated based on the same standards equally such as Quality of product, Leaders Ability to articulate, and Teamwork. Qualifying process to Miami Summary;
1. General Application ­ Teams must apply with 3 persons ­ Per Team ­ Canto.org
2. Demo (Prototype Watson)­ Once apply, an access Link will be provided to candidate. 1 week

Rules & Criteria

1. Participants must be citizens regional CANTO member countries as follows .

Anguilla, Antigua & Barbuda, Aruba, Bahamas, Barbados, Belgium, Belize, Bermuda, Cayman Island, Costa Rica, Cuba, Curacao, Dominica, French Guyana, Grenada, Guyana, Haiti. Jamaica, St Kitts Nevis, St. Lucia, St. Maarten, St. Vincent & Grenadines, Suriname, Trinidad & Tobago,and the Turks & Caicos.

2. (5) Teams of different country representing that must consist of three (3) persons per team in a country.. Age Range 18­35
● Must submit Prototype model in order to qualify

A. Why do you qualify as the best team of entrepreneur and innovator to represent your respective country at CANTO 1st Annual CODE in MIami?
B. Prove it!!!! Invite their fellow supporters to vote on social media using:

3. Teams must own the copyright or have expressed permission (in writing) to all pictures, sounds, and assets used in the creation of the submission. All software used must be licensed copies. Participants accept liability for any copyright infringements.

4. Teams must apply under a group name, and subsequently list the names, identify a team leader and details of the individuals within that group on the registration form. The Event organizers will not be responsible for the division of prizes amongst Team members. Prizes will be handed over to the group leader as identified on the registration form

5. All members of the Team must have valid travel documents for entry into Miami, USA, including a passport and United States Visa as well as any required documents. All members must be available to travel on the dates of the competition

6. Team members must have prior experience programming in HTML, JavaScript, C++, python or Ruby programming and software design UI/UX are highly preferred. Showcase a minimum of 2 operating platforms (Code/Design) they have previously developed.

7. Complete authorize(sign) all documents by taking part in the competition you warrant that all information submitted is true, current and complete at the time of submission. It is your sole responsibility to ensure that your details and email address are accurate, and that CANTO is informed of any changes to these.

8. By participating in this Competition, the applicant agrees to release CANTO, DSS, and PIEDATA, their sponsors, advertising and promotions agencies, parent companies, affiliates, subsidiaries, officers, directors, agents, and employees, harmless from any and all liability whatsoever for any injuries, losses or damages of any kind arising from participation in or in connection with the Competition.

9. The Submission must not contain material that violates or infringes another’s rights, including but not limited to privacy, publicity, copyright, trademark, patent, or intellectual property­ or property­ related rights;

The Submission must not contain material that promotes discrimination based on race, gender, religion, nationality, disability, sexual orientation or age.

10.All members must participate, During the 48 Hour period at least 1­2 member of each team is required to be presently working on their solutions at all times. At no time can a full team take a break all at the same time during the competition. Food, Drinks, Caffeine, and, Energizer will be provided during the competition.

EVALUATION PROCESS

The selection process will administered by a highly qualified panel of judges. These judges will review team submissions with reference to judging criteria and determine, in its sole discretion, the winning teams by 1st,
2nd, 3rd place. Judging Criteria:
