The 6th Travelling Caribbean Film Showcase
Dedicated to Music of the Caribbean

The Travelling Caribbean Film Showcase (TCFS) is an annual film festival representing filmmakers from the Caribbean, Latin America, Africa and its diasporas. The Cayman National Cultural Foundation (CNCF) is proud to be the Organising Committee for the Cayman Islands.

TCFS will be travelling to your District & the Sister Islands starting in West Bay on June 22. See below for a full schedule. Due to the generous donations from Dart and Lobster Pot, admission is completely FREE at all locations. There will also be food and beverages available for purchase.

On Saturday 27th June at the Cayman Brac screening, there will also be an opportunity to see the Finalists’ films from our Young Image Makers competition (head to the Red Carpet event this week – see below!).

Hollywood comes to Cayman Islands at Inaugural Film Festival

thumb_Carlos Pena & Alexa VegaSome of Hollywood’s finest actors, filmmakers, directors, producers, screenwriters and other industry professionals are descending on Grand Cayman this weekend for the first ever CayFilm Cayman International Film Festival which kicks off on Thursday night.

From veteran actors such as Emmy-award winning Brian Cox (Braveheart, Bourne Trilogy) and Wes Studi (Avatar, Dances with Wolves, The Last of the Mohicans) to rising stars Alexa PenaVega (Spy Kids Trilogy, Sin City 2), Carlos PenaVega (Big Time Rush) and Nicky Whelan (Hall Pass, The Wedding Ringer) to established names in both TV and movies such as Rick Gomez (Sin City, Ray, Transformers, Band of Brothers) and Reno Wilson (Mike & Molly, Crank, Transformers), Festival-goers will have the chance to rub elbows with a variety of talent.

unnamed-1In addition, there are opportunities to learn from the best as throughout the weekend there will be workshops, panels and Q&A sessions conducted by award-winning writers, producers, photographers and directors. Activities that might interest attendees include:

* A Photography Workshop with Cayman’s own Cathy Church — “How to Improve Almost Any Photo”
* A Screenwriting panel with James V Hart (Hook, Contact, Dracula)
* A session with YouTube star Greg Benson — “From Short Films to Comedy Viral Hits
* “Music for Film and TV” — a workshop on how to write music for film and television conducted by BPM Music producers David Shaw & Marc D’ Andrea
* “The Magic of Live Action Special Effects” presented by Academy Award® winning Special Effects Coordinator Dieter Sturm
* Special Effects Makeup workshop with Jimmie DeLoach
* Q&A with legendary filmmaker Paul Schrader (Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, American Gigolo)
* Live Skype chat with Director Jon Chu (GI Joe 2, Step Up, Now You See Me) who will be showing some of his student and first films
* Acting Workshop with Wes Studi (Dances with Wolves, Last of the Mohicans, Heat, Avatar, Being Flynn)
* Q&A with Loren Carpenter, Co-Founder of Pixar Animation Studios

Other activities include daily film screenings at four venues — Regal Cinemas, Ritz-Carlton Grand Cayman, the Harquail Theatre and the National Gallery. From film premieres to animation to documentaries to features, there is something for everyone. (http://www.cayfilm.com/festival-events/).

On Friday, 19 June the public is invited to a free-admission day at both the Harquail Theatre and The National Gallery where family-friendly festival films will be screened throughout the day and free workshops and panel discussions will be conducted.

The CNCF Young Image Makers film competition and awards and CITA’s Underwater Film Festival, both free events, will take place at 6pm at the Harquail Theatre and National Gallery respectively, followed by a kid’s glow party at the Harquail and an adult event at the National Gallery. There will be music, food and drinks for kids and adults alike.

600 films from 56 countries were submitted to the international judging panel and 200 of those films have been selected for showing during the Festival. The categories include animation, narrative features, environmental focus and documentaries.

Both VIP (CI$400) and General Pass (CI$80) tickets are still on sale for the CayFilm Cayman International Film Festival, and can be purchased online at www.cayfilm.com/tickets or in person at Cathy Church’s Photo Centre, the Cayman Islands Tourism Association office and Books and Books and Discovery Centre Camana Bay.
