Cultural Reception for Minister Bellingham

A sampling of Cayman’s cultural heritage was on display at a reception for visiting UK Minister for Africa, the United Nations, Overseas Territories and Conflict Issues, Mr. Henry Bellingham, MP, at Pedro St. James on Thursday, 19 April.

Cayman Islands Folk Singers in performance

Hosted by the Premier, the Hon. McKeeva Bush, OBE, JP, the evening featured a cross-section of performing and culinary arts, showcased by individuals, groups of school children and adults against the backdrop of the Caribbean Sea. Mr. Bush also presented the Minister with a commemorative plaque crafted in Caymanite in his honour.

“It’s a Small World”, croon this duo from East End Primary School.

Musical performances included duets by East End Primary and Triple C School students, songs by UCCI singers, Chapel Church of God choir, Grace Christian Academy Infant Choir and Cayman Islands Folk Singers, as well as a solo by Miss Zariah Anglin and musical entertainment by noted local performer Lammie.

Dance numbers featured Sir John A. Cumber Primary and George Town Primary schools and the dance troupe KRI.

Culinary delights included such Caymanian favourites as conch, beef and cassava dishes.
