Women’s Month Ends With A Bang

Honouring Women’s Month could not have ended any other way.

Attendees mix and mingle.

Speeches, laughter, hugs and applause filled the air last Tuesday (27 March) at the final event – Honouring Women’s Month Governor’s Reception.

Hosted by His Excellency The Governor Mr. Duncan Taylor, CBE and Mrs. Marie-Beatrice Taylor and organized by the Family Resource Centre (FRC), the evening highlighted presentations to the various sponsors and participants who took part during the fun-filled activities throughout the month.

Setting the tone for the event, Audrey Gale and Marlene Holder-Ellis – winners of the International Women’s Day (IWD) poetry competition – entertained the crowd with a performance of their Caribbean–flavoured entry: Woman is Her Name.

Other winning items from the IWD competitions were also on display.

The evening also featured surprise presentations to FRC staff members.

Commenting on what had been an extremely active month, His Excellency The Governor Duncan Taylor, CBE said, “Congratulations to the FRC staff for organising so many successful events that have encouraged us to pay tribute to the special women and girls in our lives. As we know, women play an integral role in enhancing our society and keeping us men in line”.

He added “It was a great honour to be a part of the festivities”

FRC Programme Coordinator Miriam Foster commented that it was overwhelming to witness such great public participation this year.

Expressing the hope that the message of the celebration would continue to make an impact through the remainder of 2012, she added “Although 30 March marks the ending of Honouring Women’s Month, I encourage everyone to focus on empowering girls and serving as models of integrity and resilience to all,” she said.

With the theme: Connecting Women, Inspiring Girls, this year became the 14th annual celebration of Honouring Women’s Month.
