Colonial Awards Presented

Nine-Year Medal recipient, Special Constable Michael Mendez, with wife Ruthie, daughter Kaylee and son Kameron.

Officers from the Cayman Islands uniformed services – the Royal Cayman Islands Police, Special Constabulary, Fire, and Prison – were presented with Colonial Long Service Awards during a Government House ceremony on Thursday, 29 March, 2012.

His Excellency the Governor, Mr. Duncan Taylor, CBE, and Deputy Governor Franz Manderson, Cert. Hon. JP, presented 45 medals for distinguished service ranging from nine to 30 years.

The Colonial Fire Brigade Long Service Medal, the Colonial Police Long Service Medal, the Colonial Prison Long Service Medal and the Colonial Special Constabulary Medal were the awards which were given out at the ceremony.

Mr. Manderson noted that the officers were being rewarded for ‘long service in their respective roles, for good character and for conduct considered to have been exemplary’.

Other dignitaries present included: Speaker of the House, the Hon. Mary Lawrence, JP; Deputy Premier, the Hon. Juliana O’Connor-Conolly, JP; Commissioner of Police David Baines; and Prison Service Director Dwight Scott.

Also attending were family and friends of the recipients as well as other government officials.
