There’s a new, low-calorie whiskey in town

Whisky exportsBy Molly Lynch From Mashable

A new brand of alcohol entered the market, just waiting for the Internet’s derision and/or praise: Diet Whiskey.

While the liquor market has been flooded recently with light versions of pre-mixed cocktails and wines, no manufacturer has been bold enough to touch the bastion Screen Shot 2015-04-18 at 9.29.06 AMof adulthood and acquired taste that is whiskey.

A drink traditionally associated with hard-working, hard-drinking men, whiskey is making its way into the diet world with a company called Sinfully Thinn, which offers the spirit plain or with cinnamon or blueberry flavors.

The company boasts a spirit “vacuum distilled in small Screen-Shot-2015-04-17-at-10.22.10-AMbatches,” though they decline to delve into how exactly that process reduces the calorie count of their product. A little digging reveals that, in fact, their whiskey may not even be “lighter” than traditional whiskies like Jack Daniels. The nutrition information on their bottles says there’s 100 calories in 1.5 ounces (one shot) of their whiskey, while the information provided by the Jack Daniels distillery puts their calorie count at only 97.5 for the same amount of liquor.

Only time will tell if Sinfully Thinn can be successful selling a light version of the liquor that’s associated with such symbols of anti-diet masculinity as Jack Donaghy and John Wayne, but, as noted man’s man Ron Swanson would say:

“Son, there is no wrong way to consume alcohol.”
