RCIPS busy: WestStar robbery update plus teenager arrested and man arrested (all separate incidents)

WestStar TV Robbery – Four men charged and due in court 

Four men have been charged and are due to appear in court in connection with a robbery at the WestStar TV offices on 24 May 2012.

Three of men, aged 23, 27 and 33 years, have been charged with robbery and possession of an imitation firearm with intent to commit an indictable offence.

The fourth, a 29-year-old, has been charged with handling stolen property.

It is anticipated that they will appear in court on Monday 16 July 2012.

Incident 1.  Teenager arrested following the recovery of a firearm and ammunition

A 16-year-old boy has been arrested and is detained in police custody following the recovery of a firearm and ammunition in the South Sound area Thursday (12) afternoon.

The arrest was made after officers responded to a report of a burglary in Bodden Town shortly after 3.00pm on Thursday 12 July 2012. It was reported that the person who was responsible for the break-in had left the scene in a stolen Honda CRV.

A short time later officers saw the vehicle enter the Cayman Crossing condo complex in South Sound Road. The driver of the CRV stopped the vehicle and ran off. Officers arrested him a short distance away. A firearm and a quantity of ammunition was subsequently recovered.

The teenager has been arrested on suspicion of possession of an unlicensed firearm, burglary and taking and driving away a vehicle without the owners consent.

Police enquiries continue.

Incident 2: Drugs recovered, man arrested, car seized by police

A 20-year-old man has been arrested and has had his car seized by police following the recovery of a quantity of Ganja in Northside.

The man was arrested following a police operation Thursday ( afternoon. The operation led to the recovery of a quantity of ganja and drugs paraphernalia.

He was arrested for possession with intent to supply ganja, possession of ganja and suspicion of consuming a controlled drug.

Insp. Mitchell, the Deputy District Commander for the Eastern Districts states: “ We will work diligently to ensure that the residents of the Eastern Districts receive a quick response to issues that affect our communities. This also serves as a strong warning to people who engage in illegal drugs activity that we will seize all evidence necessary as we carry out the investigation.”
