Several Foreign Teams to Attend the Cardin Boxing Tournament in Havana

HAVANA, Cuba, May 24 (acn) Boxers from Brazil, China, Peru, Jordan and the Cayman Islands are already training in this city for the Giraldo Cordova Cardin International Tournament, to be held from June 4 to 9 at the Kid Chocolate multipurpose hall.

According to organizers, the event will be attended by 194 athletes from 20 countries, including the hosts, who share training sessions with all the visitors, the online edition of the sports publication Jit said.

The foreign presence is led by Venezuela with 22 contestants, including 14 currently serving a stay in France.

Among those on French soil are the super heavyweight José Payares, the light flyweight Ronald Chacon and the light welterweight Yoelvis Hernandez, trio known for the Cuban fans.

Other nations with good presence at the event are China and India, both with 17 competitors, as well as Colombia (13), Russia (10), Brazil (12), Jordan (11) and Peru (10).

Among Africans stands out the light h eavyweight Ihab Almatbouli, who was defeated in the semifinals of London 2012 by Cuban Yaikel Kindelan.

Russia will present nine national medalists; two of them participated in the 3rd World Series of Boxing (WSB).

China will bring Wang Xuanxuan, ranked third in the world and second in the Asian championship, where the welterweight Maimaitituersun Qiong, another stellar inscribed for the “Cardin”, won the title.
