Second trial for man accused of multiple stabbing offence

tumblr_m4auzrSfeQ1rsvcqbo1_400Justin D’Angelo Ramoon (21), a George Town man, appeared in Grand Court on Monday (15) for the second time, charged with the attempted murder of Andrew Lopez on 25th August 2012.

In the first trial last January it was stopped because of legal arguments from Ramoon’s attorney.

Ramoon is alleged to have stabbed Andrew Lopez about eight times outside of Archie’s Bar on Shedden Road, George Town, before running off in the direction of Sea Inn Bar. Ramoon denies this.

Lopez, in his evidence, said on the night he was stabbed, he had had two beers before arriving at Archie’s Bar, was standing beside his car near a few men who were playing a game of dominoes under a tent that was well-lit. After receiving a cigarette from a friend, he felt the first stab in his back before he turned around to try and face his attacker. His assailant continued stabbing him even after he’d tripped and slightly fallen. It was at this point that he was able to identify his assailant as a man he has known for almost seven years called ‘Pot’, Ramoon’s nick-name.

Lopez said he did not try to defend himself. He had tried only to get away but was able to see his attacker fleeing on foot.

When he realised he couldn’t stop the bleeding he went to the George Town Hospital just after midnight and was treated for a collapsed lung and the many stab wounds he had received.

Lopez said he thought the reason for the attack on him by Ramoon was because of an incident at Jah-T’s restaurant in McField Square, George Town. Lopez had taken a scooter from Ramoon’s cousin in Prospect because he believed it had been stolen and would attract the police’s attention. He said Ramoon had come up to him and he had thought by the way Ramoon had gestured that he had a gun. A friend of Lopez told him to leave before he got killed. He did leave and didn’t report the matter to the police because he didn’t think anything would transpire from it.

The case continues before a jury of five women and two men.
