West Indies won a low-scoring match by 11 runs to earn a share of the Twenty20 series against Ireland.

West Indies 96-9 ireland 85-8

Set a target of 97 at Sabina Park, Ireland finished on 85-8 with West Indies skipper Darren Sammy claiming 3-22.

No 4 Gary Wilson hit 35 but his exit, seventh out in the 18th over, left 25 needed off the final 14 balls.

And that proved beyond Max Sorenson (10no) and his lower-order colleagues, Alex Cusack’s run out in the last over sealing Ireland’s fate and denied them a first series win over an ICC full member.

Ireland’s run chase foundered early on, openers Paul Stirling (2) and Will Porterfield (5) falling inside the first six overs during which only 19 runs were scored.

Ed Joyce, who led the tourists home at the same venue on Wednesday with 40 not out, edged behind off Sunil Narine, who finished with 1-12 from his four overs of spin.

Sammy removed the middle order as Ireland slipped to 29-5, Wilson waging a lone – and ultimately futile – battle with four fours in his 39-ball innings.

World T20 champions West Indies had earlier been limited to 96-9 after being asked to bat.

Six players made double figures but opener Andre Fletcher’s 19 was the top score while medium pacer Cusack took T20-best figures of 4-11.

The two-match T20 series is shared 1-1 but the sides meet again in Jamaica on Sunday for a one-off ODI.
