OPINION By Raheem Thomas

Heirs of NYC

NYC, the biggest of cities and brightest lights find Black Men of A Special Distinction thrown together by their likeness of Lifestyle and Sexuality that propel a united quest to just be themselves and bond, unbreakable in FAMILY.

The Heirs aka The Hotboyz of NYC are 10 years into their relationship which parallels the hierarchy of family and possess the jaw breaking accord and problems that with it.  Solidified by their fraternal like order, they know the ins and outs of this city and have stamped their names on Gay Society and Club Culture in Every Major City, using NYC as home but spilling over into others.  Known as the city’s biggest Gay Family franchise, they’ve garnered success in nightlife and opting out of the traditional ‘Ballroom’ scene for what felt most comfortable to them.  Hip-Hop being their tone, with R&B flows, its here, that they work, live and play under the world’s biggest and glitziest backdrop.  With expansion on some of their minds, boys and men on others, growth maybe good for business but will it keep the family together.

Like any Family business, so many things become apparent and have the ability to hinder or present growth if only done the right way.  The right way is how the parental figures would like it done as they’ve all been accustomed to employment at record labels and fashion companies, giving them an insight and formal training into business.  Yet, with 2 Fathers and yes 1 mother, they have enough on their plate, personalities are main course, dosed with sides of emotions, love and HATERS which make fuels their popularity as their life plays out in front of THE SCENE.

In this Fraternal Order, Mother Rahlo, Daddy Rich & Reemo, sacrifice their lives, homes and sanity to establish and keep this bond, sometimes to the adverse actions of sometimes selfish children, yet all stay attuned for the BIGGER PICTURE.  Growing pains of children are also met with the growing pains of parents and as some spread their wings, others grounded, parents never give up or so they say they don’t.  The essentialness of their bond is that while some have had hardship in life or experience neglect by family due to their sexuality, this new family evokes all that was missing and some.  Having built this family, Mother always feels umbilical cord like oneness with them, sometimes being the enabler of all his problems.  Fathers, cool and collected always take the friendship side, yet echo in private that of their counterparts concern.  The younger generation, ready to shuffle out the old, still, no one is excluded from arguments and no one is without word to throw in.  From the Jock, Pretty Boy, Fashionista, Professional, Felon, Escort, Dancer, Breakaway Star competing like BROTHERS do for their parents attention and approval by their peers.  A result are shouting matches, bloody brawls and sincere make-ups or so they say.  But like most siblings and rivalry’s that manifest, when parents look away its all truces are off.  Against the rules all are played out where the parents don’t want them to and in their house of business, where drinks fly and flow, attitudes shared and shown and others clothes worn club goers are audience to most.  A fishbowl showcasing family Nice or enemy Nasty its full and never predictable as it overflows with life.

Its true family here and prior lacks in acceptance from their biological are sometimes a world away, a new one created in their likeness, its never dull, always intense and hinges on LOVE everyday.  Together, they stand undefeated by anyone but themselves and this traditional and non-traditional family look to continue a legacy some disregard and cast away, however doubt refortifies what has been built on their backs and from those same lacks.  On any given night of the week in NYC to any pride around the USA, these men take on everything that life throws their way.  Still its just everyone’s opinion, not theirs and this bond that make them NYC Royalty.
