CAYMAN ISLANDS (October 27, 2020) – The flagship hospital of the Narayana Health Group, the parent company of Health City Cayman Islands, has been counted among the top 200 hospitals for cardiology in the world by Newsweek magazine.

Narayana Bengalaru – Institute of Cardiac Sciences is situated in NH Health City Bangalore. This super-specialty cardiac hospital is one of the largest in the world and is Joint Commission International (JCI) and National Accreditation Board for Hospitals & Healthcare Providers (NABH) accredited. Narayana Health is one of India’s largest private healthcare systems.

The Bangalore facility was included under the “World’s Best Specialized Hospitals” section in the 2021 edition of the Newsweek “World’s Best Hospitals” list, which is a partnership with global market research and consumer data firm Statista Inc. The list was first published in 2019, and the rankings are adjudicated by a “Board of Global Experts”, which is described by Newsweek as “an independent body that is tasked with the continuous development of the quality and scope of the project”.

The 2021 edition of the list is the first to include rankings for various medical specialties, including the best hospitals in cardiology, oncology and endocrinology. Each list includes a ranking of the 50 best global hospitals, while ranks 51 to 200 are sorted alphabetically.

In her foreword to the list of specialty hospitals, Newsweek Global Editor-In-Chief Nancy Cooper said “If you or a loved one needs specialized care in one of those areas, as millions of us do, you want to know which hospitals or medical centers have state-of-the-art facilities and the most knowledgeable, accomplished physicians. Where will you have access to the best diagnosticians, highest level of care and most effective treatments? We’re proud to offer our readers these independent, authoritative and reliable Newsweek/Statista rankings.”

Health City Cayman Islands Clinical Director and Chief Cardiothoracic & Vascular Surgeon Dr. Binoy Chattuparambil said, “That the flagship hospital of our parent company – Narayana Health, has received this recognition is testament to the high quality standards upheld by the entire NH group of hospitals, and underscores the dedication and vision of group Chairman Dr. Devi Shetty and the legion of doctors who have trained under his tutelage and guidance. It is Dr. Shetty’s mission, to make the highest quality of specialized medical care accessible and affordable for as many people as possible around the globe.”

Dr. Shetty, a renowned heart surgeon and humanitarian, is the Founder of Health City Cayman Islands, which opened its doors in 2014 to bring his vision of compassionate, high-quality, affordable healthcare services offered in a world-class, comfortable, patient-centered environment to the Western hemisphere.

Health City Cayman Islands Chief Business Officer Shomari Scott said, “Here at Health City Cayman Islands, we are proud to be part of an organization that upholds the highest standards as recognized by independent parties of the caliber of Newsweek and Statista. Many people around the globe look to the United States as setting a benchmark for medical excellence, so it is great to see us judged by international experts to be on par with these standards, and indeed among the best globally. Locally, we will continue to provide the Cayman Islands with the highest quality of health care. In the current situation with our borders still largely closed, we hope to give local patients peace of mind that the best, world-class medical care is available right here at home without the need to travel overseas.”

The Narayana Bengalaru – Institute of Cardiac Sciences is equipped with 16 dedicated cardiac operation theatres and six digital catheterization laboratories (cath lab), one if which is a hybrid cath lab where both interventional cardiac procedures as well as complex heart surgeries can be performed.

Narayana Institute of Cardiac Sciences specializes in complex cardiac surgeries and performs heart surgeries on both adults and children, boasting an eighty-bed dedicated pediatric cardiac Intensive Care Unit that is the largest in the world.

In her foreword, Cooper said, “If you were asked to name the world’s best hospitals, you might well have mentioned the Mayo Clinic, Massachusetts General and the University Hospital, Zurich. You might not have thought of the Sheba Medical Center near Tel Aviv, the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm or Singapore General. But the researchers and experts who help build this authoritative list are keenly aware of what’s going on in hospitals around the globe, and they can, with confidence, identify the ones that set the standard for excellent care.”

The rankings are based on peer recommendations for specific areas of expertise from a global survey of medical professionals. The global board of medical experts which reviews the rankings is tasked with providing quality assurance by validating the preliminary hospital rankings, as well as providing input on possible improvements and expansions of the current methodology. This includes input regarding new data sources and improvements to the scoring algorithms as well as the expert’s opinion on the best hospitals in specific medical fields.

The members of the board of experts were chosen based on their national and international expertise; experience in their respective medical fields; and their scientific output.

Current members of the board of experts are Prof. David Bates, Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School, and a Professor of Health Policy and Management at the Harvard T. H. Chan School of Public Health; Dr. Gary Kaplan, chairman and CEO of the Virginia Mason Health System in Seattle since 2000 and a practicing internal medicine physician at Virginia Mason; Dr. Eyal Zimlichman MD, MSc,
