New members appointed to Cayman Airways Board

cayman-airwaysThe Cayman Airways Board of Directors has some new members.

Former MLA, Norman Bodden, has been appointed Deputy Chairman and other directors include James Tibbetts, Chris Kirkconnell, Andre Ebanks, Eric Bush and Stran Bodden.

Previous chairman of the board, Philip Rankin, has been reappointed along with previous non-voting member, Department of Tourism Director Shomari Scott.

Deputy Premier, Moses Kirkconnell, said he was pleased Mr. Rankin had agreed to stay on as chairman as it would ensure continuity in the airline’s operations as it will be embarking on a more aggressive business plan. The plan includes direct flights into Panama, Dallas and flights to Cuba will be increased.

Mr. Rankin is expected to stay on for between 6 to 12 months. Then, the Deputy Premier said, it was likely a new chairman for the board would be selected.

During this transition period it will be a sensitive time for the airline, Kirkconnell added.

Cienfuegos, Cuba, Jul 3 (Prensa Latina) the “Jaime Gonzalez” International Airport in this southern city expects to open this semester a new line linking Cuba with the Caribbean island of Grand Cayman and the U.S. city of Miami.

This was expressed to the press by Boris Suarez, director of the airport, who said the facility currently receives five weekly direct flights from the populous city in the southern state of Florida.

The Havana-Cayman-Miami route is right now operating. This line is much requested by the Cubans traveling to the neighboring peninsula on the southern tip of the United States, the manager said.

During the high tourist season, from December to March, the local airport connects Cienfuegos with the Canadian metropolis of Toronto and Montreal.

The aerodrome, located about 250 kilometers south-east of Havana, includes recent recognitions to Sky King and Sunwing airlines, due to the efficiency of its management.
