Lions Club of Tropical Gardens receives top awards at Zone, Region and District (2012-2013)

IMG_6738webAs the lionistic year 2012-2013 draws to close, the Lions Club of Tropical Gardens (LCTG) in the Cayman Islands was once again recognized for its outstanding contributions to the Cayman Islands community and for its organizational skills, efficiency and quality of projects at the Zone, Regional and District levels in the Caribbean, and was named Club of the Year for Zone 4B and Runner-up Club of the Year for Region 4.

At the recently held Region Meeting in Portmore, Jamaica, our President Lion Elva Smith received top honours as President of the Year for the Zone and Runner-up President of the Year for the Region, Secretary Denise Brown was awarded Runner-up Secretary of the Year for the Zone 4B and Secretary of the Year for the Region, and Treasurer Lion Ann Hunte was named Treasurer of the Year for both Zone 4B and Region 4.  At District level, the club received an award for its Breast Cancer Awareness campaign and for its efforts in partnerships with local entities.

President Lion Elva Smith has also been appointed as the new Zone Chairman for Zone 4B, while another member, Past Zone Chairman and current Membership Director, Lion Melrose Gooding, MJF, has been appointed Disaster Preparedness Chairman for the District for the lionistic year, 2013-2014.

The Lions Clubs of Tropical Gardens in the Cayman Islands is a member of Multiple District 60 which includes the Lions Clubs in Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, British Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, Jamaica, Montserrat, Netherlands Antilles, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Lucia, St. Maarten, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Suriname, Trinidad and Tobago and US Virgin Islands.

Lion President Elva said that she was honoured to be the sitting president during the club’s 20th year of service to the Cayman Islands and these awards and appointments were a perfect culmination to a year of hard work by her club.  She noted that the club had achieved a number of firsts during her presidency including the induction of its first member, Lion Clint Powery and establishment of club twinning with the Citrus Heights Lions Club in California, USA.  Other significant achievements for the club during the 2012-2013 lionistic year were increasing its membership 15% and awarding 2 Melvin Jones Fellowship and 1 Progressive Melvin Jones Fellowship to 3 of its members. The Melvin Jones Fellowship is the highest award given to members in the club for altruistic service to the community. Lion President Elva thanked her club family for the confidence they had placed in her over the year to serve at its highest level, and everyone for making her year a success.
