MaplesFS makes music with Cayman HospiceCare

62820_525292804186702_190060175_nThe Cayman HospiceCare (CHC) Music Therapy Pilot Programme will continue thanks to MaplesFS! Monique McLaughlin presented CHC with a check to ensure that this valuable service will continue to be available for several additional months, free of charge, to our patients.

MaplesFS has donated over US$8,000 to assist Cayman Music Therapy, a pilot programme currently underway at Cayman HospiceCare. The therapy has allowed participants of the individual music therapy sessions to experience reduced pain and discomfort, improved mood, increased coping abilities and reduced isolation – among other remarkable benefits.

Research has shown that music therapy addresses many elements of quality of life – including physiological, psychosocial, spiritual, and environmental – accomplishing a number of objectives in the hospice and palliative care environments. It is for this reason that a music therapy programme is closely aligned with the goals of Cayman HospiceCare.

“We are honoured to be a part of a programme offering such unique and innovative care to patients in hospice,” said Scott Somerville, Chief Executive Officer at MaplesFS. “Our organisation strongly supports the efforts of Cayman HospiceCare in providing comfort and exceptional care to the people of the Cayman Islands and we are hopeful that this donation will assist in the success of this innovative programme.”

The Cayman Music Therapy programme began in January 2013 and has since provided in-service presentation to hospice staff and volunteers, group music therapy and conducted a total of 18 individual sessions. It is the hope of the programme to benefit the Cayman community by bringing joy and comfort to as many people at Cayman HospiceCare as possible in accordance with the vision and mission of the organisation.
