IRS officers at the forefront of the United States’ fight against offshore tax evasion will discuss their initiatives at the upcoming OffshoreAlert Conference in Miami Beach, Florida.

A session entitled ‘The IRS vs. Offshore Tax Evaders: An Update’ will look at developments in the quest to collect taxes from U.S. taxpayers with undeclared accounts in foreign jurisdictions and to prosecute and penalize those taxpayers whose structures are considered to be illegal and the service providers who assist them.

Among the topics will be the IRS’ new International Data Exchange Service, which is an electronic delivery point where Financial Institutions and Host Country Tax Authorities can transmit and exchange FATCA data with the United States.

The session will be chaired by Dan Reeves, a retired IRS Agent who led a number of high-profile investigations into offshore tax evasion, including those involving UBS, HSBC, and Stanford International Bank.

Dan will be joined by three high-ranking IRS personnel: Bryan Stiernagle, Program Manager for the Offshore Compliance Initiative; Lindsey Stellwagen, Special Counsel, International; and Carolyn Schenck, Senior Counsel, Office of Chief Counsel.

Combined, they have many decades of experience in civil and criminal investigations into tax evasion by U. S. taxpayers using offshore structures.

They are among an array of high-level speakers from onshore and offshore jurisdictions who will present at the conference on ‘financial intelligence and investigations’.

Others include HSBC whistleblower Hervé Falciani, Liechtenstein whistleblower Klaus Lins, International Consortium of Investigative Journalists’ Director Gerard Ryle, Paul Radu and Drew Sullivan, of the Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project, and private investigators from the Bahamas, Bermuda, British Virgin Islands, and Cayman Islands.

The 13th Annual OffshoreAlert Conference North America will take place at The Ritz-Carlton, South Beach on May 3-5, 2015.
