Hospice Fundraisers Fêted

Gov helen kilpatrick 3The first DG’s 5K Challenge was such a runaway success that it is set to become an annual event. Six hundred and seventy-five runners and walkers registered for the event, which raised $12,500 towards a new Hospice Care facility.

At a reception hosted by the Governor on Thursday, 3 July 2014, Mrs. Helen Kilpatrick praised Deputy Governor Hon. Franz Manderson for the achievement, and promised to walk next year.

Funds raised will benefit the marathon challenge, that local runner Mr. Derek Haines has undertaken to raise a million dollars to build a new facility on Grand Cayman.

DG franz Manderson enthusesHanding over the cheque to Mr. Haines, Mr. Manderson lauded all those from the public and private sectors who had participated in any capacity. He also prsented mementoes to Mr. Haines, Mr. Gene Thompson, Ms Merta Day, and Chief Officer Jennifer Ahearn, who came up with the idea.

In turn, Ms Ahearn acknowledged Ms Tara Bush, Mr. Tony Watts and Mr. Charles Gilman for their contributions to the overall success of the event.

“This was tremendous. Next year’s will be bigger and better,” the Deputy Governor promised.
