HBO presents new film “The Girl”

sienna_2313159bGolden Globe® nominated HBO film “The Girl” premieres January 12 in the Caribbean

Toby Jones and Sienna Miller, also Golden Globe nominees, star in the original production

HBO Latin America will premiere the original drama from HBO Films, The Girl, on January 12th in the Caribbean. The film received three nominations for this year’s Golden Globe Awards, including Best Mini-Series or Motion Picture Made for Television, Best Performance by an Actor in a Mini-Series or Motion Picture Made for Television (Toby Jones) and Best Performance by an Actress in a Mini-Series or Motion Picture Made for Television (Sienna Miller).

Based on the book “Spellbound by Beauty” by Donald Spoto, The Girl tells the story of iconic director Alfred Hitchcock’s (Toby Jones) obsessive relationship with Tippi Hedren (Sienna Miller), his leading lady during the making of The Birds and Marnie.

The English director is revered as one of the greatest creative minds in the history of cinema. Known for his psychological thrillers, Hitchcock’s leading ladies were cool, beautiful and preferably blonde. One such actress was Hedren, an unknown fashion model who was given her big break when Hitchcock’s wife saw her on a TV commercial.

Brought to Universal Studios, Hedren was shocked when the director, at the peak of his career, quickly cast her to star in his next feature, 1963’s The Birds. Little did Hedren know that as ambitious and terrifying as the production would be to shoot, the most daunting aspect of the film ended up coming from behind the camera.

As the difficult shoot wore on, Hitchcock became obsessed with Hedren, who was forced to spurn the director’s repeated off-screen advances and disturbing mind-games, which continued through the filming of their second film together, 1964’s Marnie.

He became obsessed with the impossible dream of winning Hedren’s love, and her rejection of his misguided attempts only added to his obsession, putting both their careers and personal lives in jeopardy. The Girl is a complex tale of power, obsession and the price exacted for stardom

The cast of The Girl also includes Imelda Staunton as Alma Hitchcock, Carl Beukes as Jim Brown and Penelope Wilton as Peggy Robertson.

The film was directed by Julian Jarrold, written by Gwyneth Hughes, produced by Amanda Jenks and executive produced by Leanne Klein and Lucy Richer.
