Cuba among the Caribbean’s main tourist destinations

Havana, Cuba, Oct 29.- With almost two million visits so far this year, Cuba ratified itself among the main tourist destinations of the Caribbean, together with the Dominican Republic and Jamaica, specialized Web sites reported on Monday.

These three nations, out of the 26 that reported arrivals to the Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO), had the best performance during the period in the modality of stay, different to those of cruisers or excursions, the Caribbean News Digital magazine reported.

According to the CTO report, cited by the publication of the Excelencias Group, the Dominican Republic occupies the first position, with 3.31 million visits, followed by Cuba (1.99 million) and Jamaica (1.26 million).

Data also reflect that the United States is the key market for most of the region’s destinations, since it sends over 50% of travelers received in the area.

The National Office of Statistics and Information points out that, from January to August, 2013, more than one million 995,000 mil vacationers arrived in the Cuban archipelago, coming mainly from Canada, the United Kingdom, Germany, Argentina, France and Italy. (ACN)
