Cayman: UPDATE- Police Investigate One Serious and One Fatal Collision

From RCIPS

Police are currently investigating one serious and one fatal collision, both of which occurred this past Saturday, 11 November.

At about 1:45AM, officers responded to a report of a two-vehicle collision on Shamrock Road, in the vicinity of Grand Harbour, involving a silver Chevrolet Colorado and a silver Honda Fit. The vehicles collided when the Honda Fit was travelling westbound in the eastbound lane. The drivers of both vehicles received injuries, with the injuries of the Honda Fit driver appearing to be life-threatening, and both were transported to the Cayman Islands Hospital for treatment. The driver of the Honda Fit remains in critical condition, while the driver of the Chevrolet has since been discharged.

Shortly after 3:00PM, officers were dispatched by the 9-1-1 Communications Centre to a report of a single-vehicle collision on Bodden Town Road, between Bronte Way and Longfellow Circle in the area of Midland Acres, involving a Ford F-350. The vehicle left the roadway and collided with a concrete utility pole. Emergency services attended the location and members of the Cayman Islands Fire Service extracted the driver from the vehicle. The man, age 50, was transported by ambulance to the Cayman Islands Hospital where he was subsequently pronounced dead.

The RCIPS expresses condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.

The roadways at the location of both collisions were closed to vehicular traffic for a time, as investigations were carried out, and subsequently reopened.

Both collisions are being investigated by the Traffic & Roads Policing Unit and anyone with any information is asked to contact 649-6254.
