The 56^th annual Caribbean Amateur Golf Championships was held in the Royal St. Kitts Golf Club.

The club located at the beautiful St. Kitts Island was the site of the disappointing performance by the Cayman Islands team. The women played a more aggressive game than the men and the team finished after Trinidad and Tobago.

The three women players, Isabel Lawson, Emily Ribbins and Samantha Widmer were the main reason of this place in the women’s division f the Caribbean Amateur Golf Championships.

Of these three players, Samantha Widmer proved to be the best with a score of 74 points in the first round of the event. This performance boosted the confidence of the other two players and the team managed to hold on to the third place.

In the men’s division, Joel Dodson and Michael Wight were the only players worth mentioning. These two players ended up in the fourth place of the mid-amateur section. Their best play also came in the first round. The two players scored a total of 68 points.

In the men’s division, the first three places were held by the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico and Jamaica.

When the event was over, the results were disappointing for the Cayman’s players. They were placed in the eighth place. At the individual level, the players did not fare well. Richard Jones and Andy Newton finished at the end of the super seniors section.

In the amateur section, Cayman players, Jason Lovelock, Adam Nashed, Jason Perras, Philip Wight and Paul Woodhouse finished at the bottom of the list.

In the senior category, the Cayman players Eustace Jeffers and Tracy Moore ended up in the second last position.

This dismal performance highlighted an important fact. The women players performed well as compared to men. The top most place that the Cayman team won was a third place in the women division. This was achieved owing to the excellent performances by the three women players.

The final winner of the event was the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States. This year marks their first time as the Caribbean champions. The second place went to the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico ended up in the third spot.
