Cayman Islands Fire Service answers the call

CaymanIslandsT10GRAND CAYMAN, Cayman Islands – Heavy rains that resulted in flooding had members of the Cayman Islands Fire Service out in force on Friday.

From 6:45 p.m. 5 June, 2015, until 6.45 a.m. on 6 June, 2015, crews answered a dozen calls including assisting the public in the flooded areas of Brinkley and Anthony drives, Smith Road, Lyndhurst Avenue and Jennifer Drive in Snug Harbour.

Three fire alarm calls were answered at CIFEC on Walkers Road, Lakeside Apartments on Esterley Tibbetts Highway and Scotia Bank on Cardinall Avenue.

Calls also included Emergency Medical Services on Fidlers Way, smoke investigation at a possible house fire on Fairbanks Road, entrapment in an elevator on Hospital Road and a motor vehicle accident on Boilers Road.

Heavy rains from a weather system began affecting the Cayman Islands on Tuesday, 2 June, 2015, and resulted in flooding in several areas across the Country. On Friday evening, further reports of flooded homes and roads in George Town and West Bay led to the opening at 9.30 p.m. of the of the Shelter at the Red Cross Building on Huldah Avenue.

“I commend the Fire Service for its rapid response in this awful weather, especially when members of the public needed assistance because of the flooding,” said Ministry of Home Affairs Chief Officer Eric Bush. “Our crews once again showed their mettle and selflessness in helping out their fellow man. To them, I say thank you.”
