Appointment of new Cayman Islands Accountant General

Matthew Tibbetts BThe Deputy Governor & Head of the Civil Service, the Honourable Franz Manderson and the Financial Secretary & Chief Officer of the Ministry of Finance & Economic Development, Mr. Kenneth Jefferson, are pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Matthew Tibbetts as the new Accountant General. Mr. Tibbetts will take up the position on 14 September 2015.

“I am delighted that we have identified another highly capable Caymanian for this important post and his appointment demonstrates our commitment to train and promote Caymanians in the Civil Service. Mr. Tibbetts is a professional and dedicated individual who is well respected within the Public Sector. His considerable accounting and human-resource management experience will be of significant benefit to the Treasury Department”, said Mr. Manderson.

Mr. Tibbetts was selected following an open recruitment process. He is a Certified Public Accountant having served in the Public Sector for over 14 years – which include the positions of Deputy Chief Financial Officer in the former Ministry of Health & Human Services; Chief Financial Officer Designate at the Health Services Authority; and seven years as the Chief Financial Officer in the Portfolio of the Civil Service. Mr. Tibbetts is currently the Acting Deputy Chief Officer in the Portfolio of the Civil Service – a position he has held since March 2014.

“I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to contribute to the further development of the Civil Service and the Cayman Islands in this new role. I fully appreciate the magnitude of the Accountant General’s responsibilities and I look forward to fulfilling those duties in the most efficient way possible,” Mr. Tibbetts said.

The Accountant General is Government’s principal accounting officer and a primary responsibility of the post involves the consolidation of the Government’s Entire Public Sector Budget and financial statements.
