8,000 teaching materials and counting: BVI continues to make educational strides using NotesMaster’ globally leading platform

OECS Media Statement

Monday, October 1, 2018 — NotesMaster, an innovative global on-line learning environment which was rolled out in the British Virgin Islands late last year in in the wake of Hurricanes Irma and Maria by the OECS Commission and the Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC), continues to support student learning through open access to knowledge, sharing and collaboration.

September 24 to 27th marked a week-long teacher orientation workshop on the platform, conducted in Tortola by Mrs. Alsian Brown-Perry, Assistant Registrar of the Syllabus and Curriculum Development Unit.

The NotesMaster training was spearheaded by Mr. Damon Clarke, Regional Manager of NotesMaster.

Mr. Clarke, Regional Manager of NotesMaster said the platform remains committed to supporting the Ministry of Education BVI, in optimizing schools’ outputs through greater use of information and communications technology (ICT) in the Caribbean Primary Exit Assessment (CPEA) and the Caribbean Certificate of Secondary Level Competence (CCSLC) offering.

Key focus was placed on the use of the digital toolkits available for all CPEA and CCSLC subjects which are equipped with over 8,000 teaching and learning materials, with participating teachers expressing appreciation of the joint approach of CXC® under the MOE BVI to drive greater productivity and achievement not only for only students but teachers.

The workshop highlighted how to use the digital toolkits in classes, share best practices with colleagues across the region, consult with the CXC® curriculum team, create and conduct virtual classes online while allowing the repurposing of materials to meet their own teaching needs.

A new and improved NotesMaster platform is scheduled for release in November with a range of new features based on more student-centered approach to learning designed to enhance the digital experience for stakeholders.

NotesMaster has been a significant digital development taken by the Caribbean Examination Council towards utilising a premium teaching and learning experience, not limited by borders or classroom walls for all students.
