Will the U.S. finally abolish slavery?

From “Krysta Bisnauth, Freedom United”

“It is among the most egregious forms of modern slavery as it involves states not only failing in their duty to safeguard human rights, but actively using their power to perpetrate abuse.” – Walk Free, Global Slavery Index 2023

We have great news! A new bill (SJR 33/HJR 72) has just been introduced to Congress that would amend the 13th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution and end slavery once and for all.[1] The U.S. is 1 of just 17 countries put in the hot seat in the 2023 Global Slavery Index for practicing forced prison labor – one of the “most egregious forms of modern slavery.”[2]
Join advocates, led by the formerly incarcerated and their families, and let’s right this wrong.

Very few Americans know that the very instrument believed to abolish slavery for good actually does not. The 13th Amendment of the Constitution has an ‘exception’ or ‘punishment clause’ that allows slavery to be used as a punishment for a crime. To mark Juneteenth, take action to abolish legal slavery in the U.S. for good.
