Walkers turns to Maples for funds hire

investing-in-investment-fundsBy Joanne Harris From The Lawyer

Walkers has picked up a partner from Maples and Calder in a boost for its Cayman Islands investment funds team.

Dawn Howe is joining Walkers’ London office initially and will eventually relocate to the firm’s Cayman headquarters.

The news comes about 18 months after Maples picked up a team of seven partners and three other lawyers from Walkers’ Cayman and British Virgin Islands (BVI) funds teams (30 March 2012). Within the last year Walkers has also lost a duo of former funds partners to Appleby (10 October 2012), and BVI funds specialist Catherine Ross to Forbes Hare (17 September 2012).

Howe’s hire follows the recent relocation of Jersey partner Jack Boldarin to London to head up Walkers’ City office, along with the relocation of finance partner David Collins from Singapore and the promotion of funds lawyer Jasmine Amaria to the partnership earlier this year.

Walkers also recently brought on board Sidley Austin funds lawyer David Brennand, who joined the offshore firm as a partner.

Howe advises on the structuring, launch and day-to-day work for hedge funds and private equity funds.
