Activist urges companies to stop benefiting from Uyghur forced labor
Jewher Ilham, Uyghur rights advocate and member of the Coalition to End Forced Labour in the Uyghur Region, this week urged businesses to stop sourcing cotton from China’s Uyghur Region. Uyghurs in China are reportedly forced to pick cotton by hand in horrific conditions, meaning there is a high risk that garments in shops around the world are tainted with forced labor. Read more…

U.K. anti-slavery commissioner warns of lack of support for trafficking victims in Rwanda
The U.K.’s anti-slavery tsar has this week denounced the government’s “lack of humanity” regarding plans to send some people seeking asylum to Rwanda. Dame Sara Thornton warned that modern slavery victims could be amongst those sent to Rwanda where they would be unlikely to receive the support they need.
