| Forced marriage U.K. taking action against forced marriage & honor-based abuse In an opinion piece this week, Yasmin Alibhai-Brown explore the devastating effects of “honor-based abuse” and forced marriage in the U.K. We are glad to see the bill to ban child marriage in England and Wales pass through the parliament’s lower house on Friday. Over 252,000 people in the Freedom United community have taken action calling on the U.K. to ban child marriage and we look forward to seeing this bill progress into law. Read more… |

| Law & Policy Does the EU’s proposal to hold companies accountable for rights abuses go far enough? This week the European Commission published its proposal to hold companies accountable for environmental and rights abuses, including forced labor. However, gaps in the proposal point to less than 0.2% of EU companies being caught under the new draft law. Additional loopholes also suggest victims would find it difficult to hold companies liable for abuses. Read more… |
