    Payzee Mahmod continues fight to end child marriage in U.K. and warns of pandemic risk
    Speaking with The Guardian this week, Payzee Mahmod, the survivor-advocate leading Freedom United’s campaign to end child marriage in the U.K., discussed the importance of Pauline Latham MP’s bill that would close the loophole currently allowing under-18s to marry with parental consent. We’re grateful for the Freedom United community’s efforts contacting MPs to attend the bill’s reading in parliament this week. Fortunately, the bill secured a second reading due to go ahead in November. Read more…Sign the petition Law & policy
    Protect victims of modern slavery as free movement ends, U.K. government urged
    Conservative MP Iain Duncan Smith and House of Lords peer Lord McColl are calling for a key bill amendment that would protect European victims’ legal status and access to public funds as the U.K. leaves the European Union. The move, they argue, is essential to ensure that some victims and survivors of modern slavery are not left a greater risk of destitution and re-trafficking as free movement comes to an end. Read more…Sign the petition.     Why my experience proves we need to end forced child marriage
    Today is International Day of the Girl Child and survivor-advocate, Fatemah, is taking this opportunity to share her personal experience of forced child marriage in our Speak Free blog. Fatemah is calling for the legislative change necessary to end forced child marriage once and for all in New York. Until recently, children as young a 14 could marry in New York, and a recent amendment only raised the age to 17.
