Tips To Score 80% In Science 10th Board Exams

Science is an important subject for the students of Class 10. Like Mathematics, it is a scoring subject. Students study hard and try to do their best to score more than 80% in the Science Board Examination. They have to focus on this subject as it will decide whether a student will be able to opt for the Science stream in Class 11th or not. 

Before knowing the tips directly, students should be aware of their syllabus. If they don’t know what is coming in their exam then they will not be able to start with their preparation. The list of chapters based on the CBSE curriculum for Class 10thScience is given below:

  • Chapter 1 –Chemical Reactions And Equations
  • Chapter 2–Acids, Bases And Salts
  • Chapter 3 –Metals And Non-Metals
  • Chapter 4 –Carbon And Its Compounds
  • Chapter 5 –Periodic Classification Of Elements
  • Chapter 6–Life Processes
  • Chapter 7–Control And Coordination
  • Chapter 8–How Do Organisms Reproduce?
  • Chapter 9–Heredity And Evolution
  • Chapter 10 –Light – Reflection And Refraction
  • Chapter 11–The Human Eye And The Colourful World

  • Chapter 15–Our Environment

According to the CBSE guidelines, students have to study these chapters from the NCERT book. Now let us go through the exam pattern. This will assist you in preparing for your Class 10 Science Board Examination. 

Underneath is the blueprint or the exam pattern which is necessary to understand by each student during their preparation.

The theory paper will be split up into 4 sections:

  • Part A –20 questions of 1 mark each. Total marks will be 20 marks.
  • Part B –Each question will be of 2 marks. There will be 6 questions. Hence, the total marks of this section will be 12 marks.
  • Part C –7 questions (3 marks each) (Total marks – 21 marks)
  • Part D – This section carries 15 marks. The number of questions is 3 which are of 5 marks each.

The Science Board Examination of Class 10 is of 100 marks. The marks distribution is discussed here:

  • In the internal assessment, students are allotted 20 marks. These 20 marks are based on the written exams conducted by the school and the practical exam.
  • 80 marks are allotted to the students in the theory exam. The weightage of the units is:
  1. Chemical Substance – Nature and Behaviour (25 marks)
  2. World Of Living (23 marks)
  3. Natural Phenomena (12 marks)
  4. Effects Of Current (13 marks)
  5. Natural Resources (7 marks)

Students start their preparation 3 months before the examination. To qualify for this exam, students have to put in all the effort.

This is the best book a student must use while studying and preparing for the Board Examination of Science. All the chapters are explained in detail in this book. The CBSE recommends this book as most of the questions are directly asked from this book in the exam.

  • Make Use Of Previous Years’ Sample And Question Papers.

Centralize these papers as they will help you in knowing about the exam pattern and the types of questions asked in the exam. Solving CBSE Previous Year Question Papers Class 10 Science will enable students in recognizing how much they have understood and what are their weaknesses. These papers will increase your confidence.

  • Work On Your Weak Points.

You have now known your strengths and weaknesses. Focus on your weak points and work on them. You can take the help of your teachers and other reference books to clear your doubts and concepts. Make notes for the equations and formulas so that you can learn them easily.

  • Subject-Wise Preparation Tips.

The Science Examination theory paper is divided into three sub-subjects. These are Physics, Chemistry and Biology. The preparation tips for these subjects are given below:

  1. For Chemistry
    1. As this section contains lots of formulas, chemical compound names and equations, prepare separate registers for them so that you can use them at the time of revision.
  2. For Physics
    1. Learn all the theorems and formulas by heart. Practice each numerical to have a grasp on the topics.
    2. Diagrams are very scoring in exams. You can represent your answers in the form of flow charts and diagrams, so practice them thoroughly.
  3. For Biology
    1. Memorize all the processes, flow charts and names of scientists. Also, learn to make neat, clean and labelled diagrams.
  • Other Educational Materials.

Refer to guide books or any other reference books to comprehend the chapters in a better way. These books will provide you with short notes for all the chapters. You will find all the NCERT Solutions and extra questions in this book. Make use of these extra questions to strengthen your concepts.

  • Invent A Schedule.

Every student should make a study plan or timetable when they start with their preparation. This technique will help students in using their time productively. Give less time to easy chapters and focus on the difficult lessons. Do not take too much pressure and refresh yourself by taking small breaks. Keep yourself fit by eating healthy food during the examination time. 

  • Revision Time.

Once you are done with completing your course, do revise all the important topics of the chapters. At this time, your notes will benefit you. You can express your thoughts in the form of diagrams and flowcharts. Keep your answer sheet simple and maintain the gap between each question.
