The Christmas Song

DSC_0349Joseph Mary and mangerThe Christmas Story may be ancient but its message is timeless and always relevant, as it brings a fresh wind of hope, peace and joy to our aching world.  From the angel’s appearance to Mary, and then Joseph, to the decree of the Census, the journey to Bethlehem, the wise men’s search and finding the Christ Child, we are drawn into the majesty and miracle of The Christmas Song.

Over 350 people attended the performances of the Savannah United Church Choir on Saturday evening and Sunday morning 7 and 8 December. On Sunday, the church was overflowing. Not content to just thrill us with their singing, the Choir acted and told the story as well with full costume and scenery.

IMG_0303full choirI am sure that everyone who attended would willingly go back to see it again.   Young and old thoroughly enjoyed the Cantata. There were many outstanding performances throughout the Cantata including by Reverend Myers as an angel, Renee Barnes as Mary, Audrey Leahong as Joseph, Robert Cox as a Roman Official, Ian Hemmings as Herod and Patrice Hanson as Shem.  Kimia Hemmings. Coulson Daniels and Grenda Solomon also delighted us with solos, but it was the overall excellence of the whole choir that made this a performance to remember. The choir was very happy that Rudy Myles was able to perform with them.

A special word of praise must be given to Noel Wallace the Music Director who, along with the whole choir, spent months preparing for this wonderful gift to the Advent Season.  We look forward to another spectacular performance next year.
