Spring into Ceramics – New ceramic art workshops at the Cayman Islands National Gallery

NGCI Ceramics WorkshopThe National Gallery of the Cayman Islands’ (NGCI) latest programme of creative art workshops for adults focuses on the art of ceramics. Held in the National Gallery’s Susan A. Olde Art Studio, classes are open to students of all abilities. “We want to provide opportunities for people with varying skill levels, experiences and interests. We have had an overwhelmingly positive response from our ceramic classes this past fall and have decided to host a series of short ceramic art courses,” says NGCI Education & Community Officer, Mr Kerwin Ebanks.

“The experience of creating ceramic art pieces taps into our sensory development and assists with motor skills, self-esteem, self-expression, problem-solving skills, discipline, and focus. Clay and the art of glazing ceramics has a uniquely therapeutic quality that I have seen relax and calm students,” notes Mr Ebanks. Classes are kept small and course fees support the cost of materials and instructors.

Raku translates roughly to ‘enjoyment’ and this course guarantees exactly that. No pottery experience is necessary.
