Shining light on men and boys

father&sonToday (19 November 2013), the Cayman Islands, led by the Department of Counselling Services’ Family Resource Centre (FRC) in partnership with the Ministry of Community Affairs, Gender and Housing, joins other countries around the world who celebrate the achievements of men and boys each year.

To jumpstart International Men’s Day activities, men and boys of all ages enjoyed a friendly football tournament last Saturday (16 November) at Camana Bay’s Sports Centre.  Kenneth Bryan and Johann Moxam were amongst some of the well-known participants.

Reigning champions Team Fully Loaded (12 years and under), sponsored by Davenport Development, and Team Expendables (13 – 18 years), sponsored by the Estella Scott-Roberts Foundation, won the $1000 cash prizes for their respective age groups. Both teams were led by Coach Antwan Seymour.

This is the third year that the tournament has formed a part of the International Men’s Day programme. It offers a unique opportunity for men and boys to interact in a wholesome setting that is engaging for both age groups, and in which adults can act as role models.
