Schofield joins HSM

scho142In a surprise announcement, Huw Moses, founding partner of local law firm HSM has announced former Acting Solicitor General Douglas Schofield has joined the practice.

Mr. Schofield has previous high profile appointments including the crown counsel’s office in British Columbia and the attorney general’s chambers in Bermuda. He also recently served as senior crown counsel for the Cayman Islands government as well as acting solicitor general.

Mr. Schofield has degrees in both history and law and is a member of the Law Society of British Columbia and the Bermuda Bar Association. He has worked as a trial lawyer in Canada, Bermuda and the Cayman Islands. During those years, he has prosecuted and defended hundreds of cases of murder, sexual assault and other serious crimes. He was admitted to the Cayman Islands bar in 1999 and has served as an acting magistrate and as acting attorney general during that time. Mr. Schofield has also published two books, with a third due to be published soon, and has written several screenplays. Former Paramount Pictures chairman, Sidney Ganis, has optioned his second novel, “Succession”.
