Rock International kitesurfing competition announced for Cayman Islands

Rock IntlThe Cayman Islands boast world class conditions for kitesurfing: crystal clear waters and temperatures during the winter at a tropical 28-30 degrees. And it’s windy almost every day from November right through to April. While the rest of the world is pulling on an extra layer, staying indoors and turning the heating up, the Cayman Islands are just getting ready for their peak season.

Cayman’s first annual kitesurfing competition: The Rock International Open (TRIO) takes place from 12 – 16 February 2014, and is set to put the Cayman Islands on the map when it comes to top kitesurfing locations around the world.

Last Thursday (3) Cayman islands Sports Minister, Hon. Osbourne Bodden was present at the announcement of TRIO.

Bodden pointed to the idyllic beaches and flat Caribbean waters that provide “perfect conditions for kiteboarding”.

“This is the perfect opportunity to showcase our island’s riches to a new audience,” he said.

It was announced the event would serve as a fundraiser for Big Brothers, Big Sisters and the Department of Environment.
