PS Audio August, 2023 Newsletter

From Paul McGowan

Hope your summer is going well. Here in Boulder, we’ve had some really hot weather that Terri and I love. Nothing better than a late evening after work to grill up some veggies and enjoy a glass of rose.

Our favorite is a recipe for grilled artichokes courtesy of my brother in law, Steve. If you like artichokes, it’s really easy. Pick a few big ones from the market, slice them in half, then boil or steam them as you normally might. Once they are good and tender, scoop out the center hairy parts. Put them face up on a plate and drizzle a bit of olive oil and thick balsamic on them, then put them onto a hot grill or barbecue. Grill them on both sides until the ends get a bit blackened.

Terri makes this wonderful adobo variation for dipping the leaves: mayonnaise with a squirt of fresh lime, a smidge of chipotle chili, and salt to taste. It’s a classic you can enjoy right up until fall hits and it’s time to start thinking about warmer venues for eating.

The AirLens
In PS Audio Family news, I suppose the most exciting is the launch of our AirLens streamer. If you’re into streaming audio from Qobuz, Tidal, Roon, or Spotify, there’s no better sounding means of doing this than with an AirLens.

What is an AirLens? You can read about it here, but the short version is that it’s a network gateway to the world of streaming. WiFi or Ethernet in, then I2S or coax out to your DAC.

What makes it different from other streaming devices out there? Its improved level of performance over any other device I have ever listened to. Ear opening.

And why is it so much better? The answer’s to be found in its name. “Air”. It connects the noisy outside world to your sensitive DAC over the air, thus eliminating all that unwanted noise.

Instead of what every other streaming device does, connect your DAC to the noisy environment of the network or your computer via wires (like USB), the AirLens removes any kind of physical/electrical connection and sends those delicate music signals through the air noise free.

“OMG! I wasn’t expecting that it would be THIS GOOD!!!”

Off the cuff
Octave Record’s latest release, Eman’s Off the Cuff, is amazing. Never have I heard dynamics like this. Scary actually. Crank this release up and be prepared to hear drums and instruments like they were right in your room. Terri, Jessica, and I recorded this amazing band live at a local Denver Dive bar in DSD256, and have been anxiously awaiting its release so we can share it with you.

And don’t miss out on the remastered version of an Octave classic, Gabe Mervine’s Say Somethin’

Octave Radio
The last bit of news I have to share with you is something really fun. Octave Radio.

If you go to our homepage, www.psaudio.com, and look at the very top of the page, you’ll see a new link that says Listen Now. Give it a try. This is our new station, Octave Radio.

It’s free, there are no ads, just a lot of good music you’ve not yet heard.

Have fun!
