Piloting student cops

Student cops 1School children walking the police beat, a gathering of medical technicians and using technology to get ahead in school feature in this week’s GIS Spotlight.

Hands-on experience is the best reinforcement for any message and six students recently led the way in a Royal Cayman Islands Police Service (RCIPS) initiative to introduce kids to the work of police officers for a day. Tune in to GIS Spotlight to witness their excitement as they experience the first “A Day in the Life of an Officer” programme.

Listen to what impressed the children “on the job”. Learn about the educational elements that RCIPS officers included to capture their attention and offer an emotive, action-packed day.

Next, stop with us at a meeting of regional medical technologists’ where participants from 24 regional countries caught up with the latest trends and products. See how continuing education and professional networking helps laboratory workers to keep their skills finely honed and up-to-date.

After that, we re-join our local youth to see how government schools are taking interactive learning to new heights. Join us as we visit classrooms where children are able to get the full benefit of ‘smartboards’, computers and audio-equipment. Discover how the technology is helping young people to better engage and to make learning more fun. Hear how the new electronic equipment has opened a number of avenues for learning.
