Pie in the sky! Domino’s pizza delivered by PLANE to holidaymakers on remote Caribbean islands (and the fee is just £1.75)

A Caribbean airline is giving a new meaning to the term special delivery by delivering pizza to locals and tourists on two remote islands.
Winair and Domino’s have teamed up to deliver warm pizzas by plane from St Maarten to the tiny islands of Saba and St Eustatius, both special municipalities of the Netherlands.
With a delivery fee of just $2.75 (£1.75), the pizzas are baked at the chain’s takeaway at St Maarten Airport and then hand-delivered within 30 minutes on scheduled passenger flights.

Footage shows one of the pizza deliveries to Saba’s airport, where pilots face the shortest commercial runway in the world.
At just 1,300ft, it is located on the side of a mountain with ocean on either side.
Audrey Agard, a manager at the airport Domino’s, told Mashable that the service has become quite popular and the restaurant receives several delivery requests per day.

When an order is placed staff bake the pizza or pizzas before the next scheduled flight and escort the pies on the 15- to 20-minute flight to Saba or St Eustatius (also known as Statia).
Each order is packed in an insulated heat bag, which is buckled into an open seat so it doesn’t shift during the flight.
Home delivery is not an option, as hungry customers must pick up their order at the Winair counter, in addition to prepaying with a debit or credit card.
Winair said it can’t guarantee specific timed deliveries, however, due to changing flight schedules, possible delays or weight restrictions on De Havilland DHC-6 Twin Otter aircraft.
