NASCAR said Wednesday that it’s  banning the display of the Confederate flag at all events and properties.

The decision, as reported by CNBC, comes more than two weeks after a black man, George Floyd, died after a white Minneapolis cop knelt on his neck for nearly nine minutes.

The death, captured on video, has ignited protests nationwide, and spurred demands that symbols of the slave-holding Confederacy be removed from public places.

“The presence of the confederate flag at NASCAR events runs contrary to our commitment to providing a welcoming and inclusive environment for all fans, our competitors and our industry,” the auto racing organization said in a statement that was issued before its race Wednesday night at Martinsville Speedway in Virginia, CNBC reported.

Earlier this week, Bubba Wallace, the only black driver in the league, demanded it remove the Confederate flag from its races, according to CNN.com.

“No one should feel uncomfortable when they come to a NASCAR race,” Wallace told CNN’s Donald Lemon. “So it starts with Confederate flags. Get them out of here. They have no place for them.”

Wallace said NASCAR should “get rid of all” the Confederate flags. Prior to a race on Sunday at the Atlanta Motor Speedway, he wore shirt that read “Black Lives Matter” and “I Can’t Breathe” along with a mask with the American flag design.

He was also planning to drive a car with a #BlackLivesMatter paint scheme this week.

In 2015, NASCAR officials requested fans “refrain from displaying” the Confederate flag at its events, but did not issue an outright ban. NASCAR, however, has banned the use of the flag on its race cars and merchandise.
