Offshore firm Mourant Ozannes has re-hired Appleby corporate and commercial practice head Barney Lee in Guernsey.

Lee, who spent five years in Mourant Ozannes’ Guernsey office prior to joining Appleby in 2010, specialises in investment funds, finance and general corporate work, with a particular focus in the establishment, listing, restructuring of investment funds and asset managers.

The Australian-qualified lawyer also advises companies in financial distress, effecting restructures and liquidations.

“It’s a real coup to welcome Barney back to Mourant Ozannes,” said Gavin Farrell, head of the firm’s corporate practice in Guernsey. His technical ability, coupled with his popularity with both staff and clients, makes him an outstanding addition to our corporate team.”

“Barney is an excellent lawyer with a well-deserved reputation for going the extra mile to serve his clients,” added Guernsey managing partner Jessica Roland. “This move will further enhance our position as the leading law firm in the Channel Islands for investment funds and corporate work.”

Mourant Ozannes currently has more than 50 partners and 440 staff based across six offices, including four offshore offices, in the British Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands, Guernsey and Jersey, as well as a base in London.

In January 2012, the firm launched in Hong Kong, with Guernsey corporate partner Paul Christopher formally taking up a role as managing partner of the office.
