MLA’s fight to lower electricity costs

Last Wednesday (11) in the legislative Assembly (LA), West Bay MLA Cline Glidden, presented a private members motion to allow net metering in Cayman.

He said he was fighting to lower the high electricity prices here in the Cayman Islands by generating power from wind mills and solar that a homeowner could sell to Caribbean Utilities Company (CUC), the sole electricity company supplying power on Grand Cayman. When the same  homeowner requires the same amount of power back from CUC, he obtains it at the same rate CUC bought it from him.

“Something must be done,” Mr. Glidden said, “to lift the weight off customers with the current high cost of living and I strongly believe if all goes well with the plan, the motion will do just that.”

The MLA obtained a rare full support from all members of the LA.
