Maples Partners with Chamber of Commerce for Teacher Recognition

Maples_GoldenApple__Nov2013Maples and Calder has once again signed on with the Cayman Islands Chamber of Commerce for sponsorship of the Golden Apple Awards. As sponsor of the Lifetime Achievement Award category, Maples and Calder has committed CI$12,000 for each of the next three ceremonies.

Now in its fifth year, the Golden Apple Awards programme seeks to recognise educators for their outstanding dedication to the teaching profession, often going beyond lesson plans and classroom interactions to see to the success of each of their students.

This year the Chamber of Commerce has partnered with the Ministry of Education, Employment and Gender Affairs to ensure a high standard in the selection process by measurement against national standards. Candidates for the awards are nominated by the public before being shortlisted by a panel using carefully selected judging criteria.

The Lifetime Achievement Award is presented to a visionary leader whose lifelong commitment to the development of education in the Cayman Islands has been exemplary. The recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award must have served a minimum of 25 years in the field of education and made a significant and lasting contribution to improving the educational environment in the Cayman Islands.

“Maples and Calder recognises the importance of education in our community,” said Paul Lumsden, Managing Partner of Maples and Calder’s Cayman Islands office. “This commitment has led us to assist various schools and after-school youth programmes throughout the country which focus on the recognition of excellence and achievement, such as the Golden Apple Awards.”

In addition to the Lifetime Achievement Award, there are five categories for which an educator will be recognised with a Golden Apple Award for Excellence in Teaching. The categories include Primary School teachers each from a public and private school; High School teachers each from a public and private school; and a Principal from either a public or private school.

The Golden Apple Awards ceremony takes place on Saturday, 30 November 2013 at The Westin. For further information, please contact Tiffany Dixon-Ebanks at [email protected] or +1 345 949 8090.
