Maples and Calder Sends Young Caymanian lawyer to Hong Kong

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAIn continuing its commitment to offering newly qualified and junior Caymanian lawyers the opportunity to expand their horizons, Maples and Calder has granted Associate Christina Gordon the opportunity to gain experience in a foreign office by way of a secondment.

Christina Gordon, who is a part of the firm’s Investment Funds group, will be heading to Maples and Calder’s Hong Kong office for one year beginning in April 2014. Christina joined the firm in 2009 and was admitted as an Attorney-at-Law in the Cayman Islands in 2011. She advises on the formation and restructuring of all types of investment funds including registered mutual funds, hedge funds and private equity funds. Christina also advises on a broad range of financial transactions, as well as general corporate and commercial matters.

“Secondment opportunities are coveted, so I felt very fortunate and honoured when the prospect of a secondment arose and I was asked to take up a position in our Hong Kong office,” Christina says of her upcoming departure.

She continued, “I am looking forward to this very big move as the advantages are twofold; bringing benefits both to my professional and personal development. I am especially grateful to be living out this experience with Maples and Calder, who has played an integral role in my career development as an attorney.”

“Maples and Calder is committed to the evolution of Cayman’s legal community through training and promotion of aspiring lawyers,” said Paul Lumsden, Managing Partner of Maples and Calder’s Cayman Islands office. “A secondment to another Maples office or that of a client provides our junior Caymanian attorneys with valuable experiences from which they can draw throughout their legal careers.”

To date, Maples and Calder has seconded a total of nine Caymanian attorneys to foreign offices within the firm or with clients of the firm.
