Letter to the Editor

I was so disappointed to read in the Compass* on today that the RCIP has so far had  only 40 traffic tickets issued since the new traffic law’s implementation.  It appears that RCIP Administration is having some difficulty  getting the real message of what is really expected from them where road safety is concerned.

It’s not the officers’ fault, they are only following instructions.

40 traffic tickets is not at all a record number of tickets written by police who have an honestly executed quota for even one single day. Yes in 24 hours! There are 52,000 citizens and residents the majority of whom drive and live in the Cayman Islands including the lesser islands, Little Cayman and Cayman Brac.

If the RCIP is serious about RCIP paying its own way, and paying for their own helicopter to ease up budget demands, then I’m sure with the many traffic violations that the public witness daily, where responsible drivers have to endure amongst other driving maniacs; the quota should be set at 4,000 tickets per month.

God forbid that Cayman would become a police state but the RCIP must demonstrate more seriousness about traffic discipline and filling the RCIP coffers with tickets being written daily to traffic violators who endanger the lives of others with no remorse and no attempt to rehabilitate themselves.

Ultimately, we may be able to close the doors of the disgusting Work Permit Board and lay a few bulldozers down in front of the door, as we gather revenue from Traffic tickets instead of the work permit mill which is a disgrace to the Cayman Islands and an insult to our unemployed.

In conclusion, the RCIP can pay for its own helicopter without the aid of outside or other government revenue sources.
