Law School Celebrates 30th Anniversary

The Cayman Islands Law School – now officially named The Truman Bodden Law School of the Cayman Islands – hosts two major events next week.

On Friday, 3 August, which marks the 30th anniversary of its founding, the school holds its graduation ceremony at the Westin Casuarina Ballroom from 6 p.m. Keynote speakers for this invitation only event include the Attorney General, the Hon. Samuel Bulgin, QC, JP; the Hon. Truman Bodden, OBE, JP and the Vice Chancellor of the University of Liverpool, Sir Howard Newby, KB, CBE.

Saturday, 4 August will feature the launch of the CILS-University of Liverpool alumni association, also an invitational only event, at Grand Old House at 6.30 pm. Speakers will include Sir Howard and Director of Legal Studies, Mr. Mitchell Davies.

“We are elated that our graduation ceremony and the association’s launch also mark our 30th anniversary,” Mr. Davies said. “The events signify how far the Cayman Islands have journeyed in providing tertiary legal education. Many of the leading lawyers who are practising or who practised and have since retired, senior government officials and politicians in these Islands are our alumni.”

He added, “So we are equally delighted that we will have a formal alumni association from next week.”
