Large quantity of drugs recovered near East End Monday (28) morning

Blocks in one Bale Recovered Bale - East End - 28September2015From RCIPS Tue, Sep 29, 2015 at 4:22 PM

Around 9AM yesterday morning, 28 September, a member of the public reported the sighting of a bale containing what appeared to be cocaine on the beach near the dock of Ocean Frontiers Dive Shop on Austin Connolly Drive in East End. The Air Operations Unit responded to the area, as well as uniform officers, who conducted a search along the shore on board a boat from Ocean Frontiers. The police helicopter aerially spotted more floating bales, which were collected by the boat. Altogether five bales were recovered containing a white powder resembling cocaine onshore and in the water as far as 3 miles offshore. The aggregate weight of the find was 125 kilograms, distributed across five separate bales (large white rice bags), with 25 one-kilogram blocks in each bag.

All of the packages were destroyed this morning.

Follow up searches were conducted by the Joint Marine Unit and Air Operations Unit this morning, but nothing further was found.

We would like to thank Ocean Frontiers Dive Shop for their assistance.
