The Fraser brothers Brett and Shaune did so well at the London Olympics that they have inspired someone very close to home – younger brother Kyle.

Between them Shaune, 24, and Brett, 22, reached the semi-finals three times in the 100 metres and 200m freestyle.

Plenty of youngsters in the Cayman Islands now have greater ambitions to reach the next Olympics, in Rio de Janeiro in 2016 and Kyle, 17 in September, has more reason than most to achieve that ambition.

Shaune is already a veteran of three Olympics and Brett two.

Until recently, Kyle was not keen to go through the rigours necessary to reach the top. But he only just missed making the CARIFTA team at Easter and is now fully focused on getting to Rio and creating a unique achievement of three swimming brothers in the same Games.

“I am prepared to work hard to the fullest and take it to the level Shaune and Brett have,” Kyle said. “I have to work hard and dedicate myself to it completely.

“It all depends on how much I can dedicate myself to training over the next two years. If I’ve got this far by training so little, you never know what I can accomplish.

“There is plenty of time and I believe I can do it. I missed seven years of competition so I have plenty of catch up to do.”

Shaune believes Kyle can do it. He said: “It’s great that Kyle has those ambitions and you should always try to strive to the highest level in anything that you do in life.

“He is striving to be a part of something that would be a part of history with three brothers. That’s nice and I hope he can be a part of it with us.

“It was great having Brett here and in Beijing for the last Olympics and it would be even more special if Kyle was at the next one.

Shaune added: “Everything comes into play when you’re trying to compete at the highest level. All the little things matter when you’re coming up against the world’s best. There’s no place for mistakes and miss-steps.

“With hard work, dedication and going out there and giving your best every day you never know what you can achieve.”
