Is it a plane? Is it a bird? Is it an asteroid? OR – WAS it a Russian Rocket?

meteor or rocket? We can say an emphatic “NO!” to the first two but there is a question mark against the last two.

The streak of light that shot over Grand Cayman a week ago around 10pm Monday 29th July and appeared to explode was at first reported as an asteroid.

However, in a story appearing in the Caymanian Compass on Monday 5th August they are reporting that the asteroid could have been a rocket and a Russian made one as well.

The article says “The rocket, whose trajectory across the night sky was tracked by Satflare.com, launched a Russian satellite, dubbed 39033 by officials at the North American Aerospace Defense Command, in December last year.

“The booster, SL-14 R/B, also remained in orbit, although decaying slowly, culminating in re-entry on Monday night above Honduras.”

Very interesting but the streak of light I saw shooting past definitely wasn’t red.
